Craft Project - Harry Potter Pencil Pouch Bag (Tie-Dye and Cricut HTV)

I am starting to put together Christmas/holiday gifts for friends and family. Since a few family members love Harry Potter, I decided to make use of some canvas bags that I had purchased and put together some bags stuffed with little gifts. This project was very easy but does require a few supplies. It only took me a day to complete all the steps.

Supplies:

Plastic Table Cover - (Walmart or Dollar Tree)

Aluminum Roasting Pan - (Walmart or Dollar Tree).

Harry Potter SVG - FREE Download

Canvas Zipper Bags (15pc) - https://amzn.to/3Fx4tVj

Tulip Tie-Dye (18pc) Set (includes plastic gloves and table cover) - https://amzn.to/3ZVeAwu

CAREGY HTV Vinyl Bundle Heat Transfer Vinyl 12"x10" (45pcs) - https://amzn.to/3tltmjG

Instructions:

  1. Cover your work surface with the plastic table cover (or newspapers or trash bags) because the Tie-Dye will stain.
  2. Rinse the canvas bag in water until it's soaked. Wring excess water out.
  3. Put the plastic gloves on your hands.
  4. Fill tie-dye bottle with water, close tight, and shake until well-mixed. Open the tip. For this project, I used a light color and a dark color.
  5. Place the bag(s) in the roasting pan.
  6. Set some paper towels on the covered work surface to allow for drying.
  7. Squirt the lighter tie-dye color on the bag. Flip bag over. Squirt additional color. Allow to dry several hours (depending on your specific dye instructions). Squirt the darker color on the bag. Flip bag over. Squirt additional color. Allow to dry several hours.
  8. While you wait for the color to dry. Load the Harry Potter SVG into the Cricut Designer. I removed all the pieces but the Lightning and the Glasses. I kept the Glasses as black but I set the Lightning to gold. The gold doesn't show very well in the picture but it's very sparkly in-person. You can choose to keep the lightning as black if you wish. Cut out the two pieces. I placed these on both sides of the bag, so I made 2 sets but you can choose to do only one set. This project works great with scrap htv as well.
  9. Rinse the canvas bag to remove excess color. Allow to dry completely.
  10. Pre-heat your iron or pressing machine. Place the lightning and glasses htv pieces on the bag in the center. Press according to material instructions. Peel away the htv clear cover.
